How do I get to the hotel from the Port of Ischia?

In summary:
From the port of Ischia, you can reach the hotel by taxi, line 177 (make sure the bus display says "Via Pontano") , or on foot if you're only carrying a backpack: 1.5 km, about 25 minutes.

In more detail:

  • By taxi: especially recommended if you have heavy luggage or are a person with reduced mobility.
At the port of Ischia, you'll immediately see the taxi rank. The ride to the hotel should cost €15, including luggage ( source ), but agreeing on a fare before boarding will avoid unpleasant surprises from particularly exuberant taxi drivers.
  • By bus: You can take line 177 if the display in front of the bus indicates that it passes through Via Pontano.
Bus 177 reaches the Aragonese Castle when the restricted traffic zone (ZTL) in the historic centre is not active: (it is active every day from 11:00 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 24:00 (updated 30 April 2026 - source ).
On the way back from Piazzale Aragonese, the bus runs along Via Pontano along the seafront; you'll see our hotel in the distance. Get off at the first stop immediately after the beaches and walk 100 meters to Via Champault. The hotel entrance is located there.
  • On foot along Via Roma and Corso Vittoria Colonna: from the port of Ischia, continue along Via Iasolino, where you'll find the oak tree and the Portosalvo church. Continue along Via Roma and then Corso Vittoria Colonna: these streets form the elegant heart of our town. In some areas, the road is paved, while in others, it's cobblestone. It's fine if you're carrying light luggage or just a backpack.

The journey takes 20-25 minutes, according to Google Maps... but we know you'll get distracted by looking at the shop windows, bars, and little churches... take it easy, you'll always find someone to welcome you 24/7.

Ferry or hydrofoil?
Once you reach the port of Naples, get off at Calata Porta di Massa if you wish to take the ferry. Get off at Molo Beverello if you wish to take the hydrofoil. The journey to the island takes about 50 minutes by hydrofoil and 90 minutes by ferry.

Timetables and shipping companies.
Depending on your arrival time at the port of Naples, you may decide to travel by ferry or hydrofoil. The three main companies are:

  • Caremar - ships and hydrofoils (link)
  • Alilauro - hydrofoils only (link)
  • Medmar - ships only (link)

By clicking on the company links you can view the updated rates and timetables: remember that the main destination on the island, and the closest to our hotel, is Ischia Porto.

We recommend purchasing tickets at the on-site ticket offices, except on particularly busy days, such as weekends during the warmer months, or around holidays and long weekends. In these cases, purchasing online may avoid having to wait for the first available ride.

  • With the Alibus shuttle: ANM's Alibus operates a circular route connecting Capodichino Airport, the Central Station (Piazza Garibaldi), and the Port.
BEFORE BOARDING it is essential to pay attention to the direction shown on the display which must show "Porto" or "Molo Beverello".

How do I get to the Ulisse Hotel on Ischia Island if I'm arriving by car?

If you arrive by car from the motorway, you can continue to the port of Pozzuoli or the port area of Naples.

The recommended exit for convenience and shorter navigation times is Pozzuoli. However, if you're coming from the south or want to avoid the ring road, exit at Naples.

  1. Boarding from Pozzuoli : After the motorway toll booth, take the ring road towards Pozzuoli . Take the Via Campana exit (exit 12) and head towards the port, following the signs for the Port of Pozzuoli.
  2. Boarding from Naples, Calata Porta di Massa : after the toll booth, follow the signs for Napoli Centro Porto or Napoli Zona Portuale* and head towards the Calata Porta di Massa ferry boarding gate, which you can reach by following the port signs.
    * NOTE: If you choose to exit directly into the Port Area, it is recommended that you already have a ticket available (purchasable online) as there are checks to access the port.
If you're traveling through the city, you can enter Calata Porta di Massa even without a ticket.

During the summer months, generally from the Thursday before Easter week until October 31st, there is a ban on disembarkation and circulation for vehicles belonging to residents of the Campania region or registered in the Campania region.

Once you arrive on the island, you just need to pay attention to the active ZTLs. You can find the updated ZTL times here .

Very nice and comfortable hotel.
The building is not brand new but very well maintained and managed. The room with a sea view was very nice and clean, and the view of the castle was spectacular. The balcony was nice and comfortable. Excellent breakfast with a wide choice of sweet and savoury options and a view of the castle. Attentive and very friendly staff. The garden area with swimming pool is a real hidden gem in Ischia, with a heated pool with whirlpool and a pool at room temperature, both small but delightful. Bathrooms and changing rooms in the pool area are very useful and clean. Definitely worth returning to.

First impression is a good one...
Everything regarding food was excellent: the breakfast was varied and plentiful, the dinner was good, the waiters were very professional and kind, the two swimming pools were beautiful (one of which was heated), and the terrace on the 3rd floor with a view of the sea and the Aragonese Castle was beautiful. Recommended hotel.

Our third time, but not our last
This was our third visit to Hotel Ulisse, having also stayed there in 2016 and 2019. We enjoyed ourselves so much during those visits that we decided to return again. The hotel has already renovated some of its rooms, and ours was one of those recently updated. Our room had a balcony with a very nice view towards Castello Aragonese. As a new feature, the room also had air conditioning, which was easy to adjust. There was also a large-screen Smart TV that made it possible to watch streaming services. The cleaning service was smooth and efficient. We recommend the half-board option for dinner at the hotel. The restaurant offers a good combination of traditional Italian cuisine and provides multiple choices for each evening. The pool area is well maintained and now has much better sun loungers. The pool menu offers a wider variety of choices than before, so you won't go hungry while relaxing there. Overall, the staff are very friendly and helpful, making Hotel Ulisse easy to recommend. We look forward to returning in a couple of years!
